Oregon Main Street Program

For the Main Street steering committee, the following members are recommended:  commercial district property owners, retailers, professionals, lenders, city officials, business association members, recognized community leaders, local civic organizations, historical societies, and interested citizens.

Here are descriptions of the four working committees:
Organization Committee:  Raises money for projects and administration, from donations and sponsorships, manages volunteers, and promotes the program.
Promotion Committee:  Seeks to understand the changing market, identifies downtown assets, defines Main Street's market "niche" and creates new image campaigns, retail promotions and special events.
Economic Restructuring:  Learns about the district's current economic condition and identifies opportunities for market growth, strengthens existing businesses and recruits new ones, finds new economic uses for traditional Main Street buildings, develops financial incentives and capital for building rehabilitations and business development, and monitors the economic performance of the district.
Design Committee:  Educates others about good design--enhancing the image of each business as well as that of the district; provides good design advice--encouraging quality improvements to private properties and public spaces; plans Main Street's development--making recommendations regarding future growth and regulations; and motivating others to make changes--creating incentives and targeting key projects.

Anyone interested in serving on one of the committees is encouraged to contact city hall at 336-2247 ext 215.

"The National Trust Main Street Center's experience in helping communities bring their commercial corridors back to life has shown time and time again that the Main Street Four-Point Approach succeeds."  That success is guided by eight principles, it is comprehensive, incremental, self-help, uses partnerships, identifies and capitalizes on existing assets, emphasizes quality in every aspect of the revitalization process, creates visible change.  For more information about the program, visit www.preservationnation.org/main-street.
